About the Artist

Marissa Morales (she/he/they) is a new/mixed media artist whose art revolves around the conception of their personal identity and cultural mortality. Born to a Mexican-American family within the border town of Brawley, their view of being raised within Southern California challenges the stereotypical utopia it often is perceived as. The idea to escape yet return back to what you once were is based on their upbringing where art was very underappreciated due to the hard blue collared work and harsh Mexican standards both her family and the area of upbringing reflected. Through this, she pushes explicit eroticism within her work all while simultaneously juxtaposing herself through the modesty of religious and cultural values.
Marissa is also a first generation college student and has received her associates degree (AA) at Imperial Valley College within studio arts. She is now studying at UCSD as an ICAM major (Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts Major) working hard to accomplish a bachelor's degree within the arts.
